RE:RE:special distribution

RE:RE:special distributionHey Sarge:

Sorry ... I answered bychoice before I moved up to your post .... but your analysis is spot on. As you will have read, I sold out at $23.20 on Monday ... so I could have waited until today and pocketed more. The problem with the market ... you can NEVER predict which way the beast will move ... and I did not want to get stuck holding the bag on the last date ... and then get dinged with the tax on OTH (50% at my marginal rate).

So in summary: positive overall .... despite forgoing approx. $2k by selling on Monday ... will still have a $117k Cap Gain on SMU.un for 2023 reporting ... DIR.un is responding to the acquisition in a very positive manner ... and in Dec. and Jan. I used all spare cash in our RRSP/TFSAs/RESPs to buy SMU.un units when they were trading between $22.50-$22.85 cuz I anticipated getting $23.50 by the end of March (now moved forward to next week) ... resulting in a safe 3-4% return (in tax free accounts) in a 3 month period ... so 12-16% on an annualized basis.

Cheers!
