I don't disagree with much of your message, but the company will struggle to be profitable "on paper" under GAAP because of the impact of Ambatovy. That's why i focus on cash flow: if they are creating free cash flow year after year, they will be viable long term. Despite the impact of Ambatovy (amortizing historical losses, etc). 

ambatovy was a debacle, but it is over. The money is gone, but it still impacts accounting-wise.
