"WRT to immigrants...I generally agree with you....the initial wave of immigration from Europe was comprised of people who were proud of their cuktural history and customs...BUT..were determined to co ntribute to their country and didn't seek handouts or had a sense of entitlement....soo..they contributed to Canada....my ancestors...Irish and Italian..did exactly that....where I agree with you is that I see increasing percentages of immigrants to canada who are looking to game the system and have little interest in actually contributing to the benefit of all Canadians..."

That has been the situation for many, many years. To a degree it is the culture they were raised in and they brought that culture along with them when they emigrated. If you grew up with it you maintain it, at least, to a certain extent. Also, our federal government has done a terrible job of limiting, or trying to gauge, the amount of immigration to more closely resemble our ability to provide the facilities and services to accomodate the numbers. And, to a certain extent, the who, where, when and why. Hence we have overcrowding in schools and hospitals and housing and we have under employment due to such things as language and education problems. Our police forces, our car insurance costs, our transportation systems are all behind the 8-ball because nobody is in charge of the "flow". We just keep bringing more people in because it's supposedly the "humane" thing to do without regard for our ability to manage the resultant effect. And they tend to concentrate these people in the large civic centers where "assimilation" is a lot more difficult i.e. the people, in a lot of cases, gather in enclave neighbourhoods resulting in similarities to where they were raised. Particularly the more senior people.

That is a natural tendency and I would likely do the same thing if I moved to a foreign country but it is also a reason why I really don't have an urge to move to another country --- I would be terrible at assimilating to some of the standards of certain countries so I stay where I am. I have a son who moved to Indonesia and he has been there for 25 years and is quite happy and does some work representing tourists as a recognized local that can deal with customs and immigration and speaks both languages for the interface. He's different than his father.

A lot of our situation goes back to that same old thing that shows up in so many sectors these days -- "where is the common sense and logic" that should govern our government. Instead it's politics, emotions, reacting to social media, being PC, and being "woke" (whatever that is). After all those characteristics have caused the intial actions and reactions then sometimes common sense kicks in.

A number of years back things were done initially through common sense and logic and about 10 - 20% special interest. Nowadays it seems we do things through initially reacting to protests by special interest groups and then throw in about 10 - 20% common sense and logic.

Just listen to all the talking points of the Democratic candidates south of the border as a classic example. Where are they going?
