I just called the company
You have to own the shares by next Wednesday.... YOU CANNOT sell the shares before February 1 st....that is when you get the dividend. i am humbly sorry...talked to IR just now..

Ex date is January 17 th...You can sell the stock on that date and get the dividend...Feb 1 st is when you actually receive said dividend.

After 4 pm on Friday...you get the dividend. On Monday..the ex date...the stock will drop by about 10.$..

Your broker is correct. Stock will cary the dividend until Feb. 1. If you sell before then you will not get the dividend.

That seems confusing, given the record date. So, if you sell after this week, you don't receive the dividend ? And the buyer gets the dividend ? Whats the purpose of the record date then ?

Go back and read press release. The stock will trade with 'due bills' attached. The stock will carry the full value of the dividend until Feb 1. The stock will trade ex-Dividend on Feb 2.
