RE: Man its ugly out there todayI have noticed the Canadian dollar dropping lately relative to the US dollar. How exactly does that happen especially when you have a strong economy and are running a significant trade surplus - with the US? Easy. You willfully debase your currency in order to force it down on the market, so that you can maintain your relative trade advantage. And the way this is done, is by increasing to the supply of Canadian dollars out there (i.e. "printing" more of them) and then exchanging them for some form of US denominated asset such as a bond. Of course there could be a few other factors at play here. But all the major CB's are working together on this, so, its deceptive to say the US dollar is rising. What is happening is that other currencies are only falling faster, giving the illusion that the US dollar is rising. This of course is "good" for commodities. This is why Zinc will not go too much lower since in inflation adjusted terms its already at a near bottom.
