Siemens Out!Bombardier May Win Toronto Streetcar Contract, Globe Reports

By Sean B. Pasternak

July 2 (Bloomberg) -- Bombardier Inc., the world's second- largest trainmaker by sales, will probably win a contract to supply streetcars to the Toronto Transit Commission, the Globe and Mail reported.

Bombardier, based in Montreal, and British manufacturer TRAM Power were the only firms to submit bids before the June 30 deadline, the newspaper said. Siemens AG, Europe's largest engineering company, decided not to bid on the order two weeks ago, the Globe said, citing company spokesman Dirk Miller.

The Toronto project could eventually require 600 vehicles, and the initial requirement is for 204 streetcars at a price of about C$1.2 billion ($1.17 billion), the Globe said.
