If food was in short supply, (and it is in many places) prices would skyrocket and people would be desperate for it.
If gasoline was in short supply, (and it is in many places) prices would skyrocket and people would be desperate for it.
If water was in short supply, (and it is in many places) prices would skyrocket and people would be desperate for it.
Imagine yourself, not being able to drive to work, shopping at the grocery store with empty shelves, and being thirsty and dehydrated because of a lack of drinking water. You and your family are in a desperate situation. Survival is being put to the test. You and your family members would do just about anything, sell everything, make sacrifices, even commit crimes in order to be able to eat, drink and travel to the place you earn an income.
