Well the alternative was to dry stack and treat and then eventually back fill, but the mountain of waste would have been huge.

Now they will treat the water from the lake as it empties into Slate Cove.

Being a former commercial fisherman I wasn't thrilled about any fish kill either. But there is a restocking plan during the reclamation period and the species and population impacted is small comparatively. Alaska has excellent fish management practices and we are the leaders in technology for managing all stocks. Alaskan fish stocks are the healthiest in the world.
