RE: News / Drilling Update
RE: News / Drilling UpdateThe setting of 9 5/8" casing is an extremely big deal, that's why they released this news. The last string of casing was a 11 /34" so the biggest hole size they could drill was 10 5/8", which I doubt they drilled, hard to find bits in that size. They most likely drilled a 8 3/4" hole with the expectation of opening it up later. Now comes the tricky part. To run 9 5/8" casing you need a 12 1/4" hole size to get a proper cement job. To accomplish this they would have to run a 12 1/4" underreamer and open the hole up to 12 1/4". Running underreamers is a risk by itself little alone running one in an unstable hole. Also getting the casing in the hole afterwards and also getting a good cement job is a major step forward. Again this is great news. From now on It should be fairly smooth sailing, the most complicated part of the well is done. The Cretaceous interval shouldn't give them as many problems as the upper Tertiary did. Now we just have to wait for results which should be forthcoming shortly. Hoping they find mass quantities of oil down in those Cretaceous zones and we get good results from the Iraqy new oil/gas laws. Then it's to the roof Norton... to the roof.
