Egypt bans export of gold in any form -agency44 minutes ago by Thomson Reuters

CAIRO, Feb 27 (Reuters) - Egypt has issued a ministerial decreeimmediately banning the export of gold in all its forms, includingjewellery and ornaments, until June 30, the official news agency MENAsaid on Sunday.

"This decision, which comes in light of theexceptional circumstances the country is passing through ..., is topreserve the country's wealth until the situation stabilises," MENAsaid.

Egypt's currency has come under pressure after some of thecountry's main sources of foreign currency, including tourism andforeign investment, collapsed after the protests that ousted PresidentHosni Mubarak erupted on Jan. 25. (Reporting by Patrick Werr)
