FM; Egypt, Ethiopia to turn new leaf in relations

Foreign Minister Mohammed Kamel Amr said on Wednesday 14/9/2011 that Egypt and Ethiopia have agreed to turn a new leaf in their relations following the January 25th Revolution.

In a press conference with visiting Ethiopian Foreign Minister Hailemariam Desalegn, Amr said the Egyptian-Ethiopian technical committee has reviewed several cooperation agreements that will be signed during the visit of Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi to Cairo later this week.

Egyptian-Ethiopian relations are historical, and both countries are looking for further cooperation in the future, he said.

Egyptian investments in Ethiopia hit $2 billion and Cairo is looking forward to launching new projects in the African country, he added.

Desalegn said his country is still eyeing more Egyptian investments.

In the same context, a technical committee comprising experts from Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia will convene soon to look into the expected effects of the construction of Ethiopia's Renaissance Dam, a spokesman for the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said Wednesday.
