Yes. In the USA "Diesel generators account for approximately 72% of the energy used to run various facets of the mining industry." Generators come in many KVA sizes and standard voltage requirements. 

There are earthquakes in Canada also and a supervolcano in Yellowstone National Park that will wipe North America.
