I guess one could argue that if the data was difficult to access from the get go, and they used the expression 'better understand' from the beginning, then they were conducting themselves this way before they had any time to doubt their initial conclusions. It wasn't as if, later, they said, oh look at hole xyz or document wxy, and exclaimed, oh we were wrong, and then took everything off.. If everything was up and suddenly it disappeared after a period of time you would have more strength to your argument ..
