Alan Blinder says virtually the same thing. The problem with this approach is that we have been spending WAY more than we are taking in for YEARS - in Europe and in the U.S.   We keep deferring the austerity into the future while we dig ourselves a deeper hole.  Politicians never have the stomach to make the cuts.  And the people will whine.  Government stimulus looks good on paper but rarely works.  First, when you put a wadd of money in the hands of a politician, it goes out the back door to friends and pet projects.  Better to leave it in the hands of those who earn it.
