One more thing The other thing I forgot to mention is this. The mining company I worked for did the following for me :
They paid me a great wage which enabled me to support my family and remain in BC without having to work camp jobs in Northern Alberta.
They provided me full benefits such as dental, medical, and a pension plan which took care of my family.
They provided me training in mining and first aid and paid for me to go to mine rescue competitions across the country.
They rewarded me for working safely by giving me safety award prizes.
They contributed thousands of dollars to our community and because I made a good wage I was also able to contribute to the local economy by spending my money there.
They enabled me to work with some of the best people in the world. I developed life long relationships with my fellow workers. Mining workers are very tight and take care of each other.
They also cleaned up the mine site after the mine shut down to the point you would NEVER know a mine had even been there. Kimberley is now a completely tourism based town and the mining company contributed greatly to this transition.
