A123 Systems Inc. AONE-74.13% fell 71% to 7 cents a share Tuesday after it said it and its U.S. subsidiaries filed for reorganization under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code in the District of Delaware. The battery maker inked a deal to sell for $125 million to Johnson Controls JCI+1.08% its automotive technology, products and customer contracts, as well as facilities in Livonia and Romulus, Mich. The purchase also includes A123's equity interest in Shanghai Advanced Traction Battery Systems Co. A123 said it continues to explore strategic alternatives for its grid, commercial, government and other operations. A123 said it received $73 million in financing from Johnson Controls to support the company's continued operations.
