seriously... is Frank trying to buy the whole company for $2.4 million?   The recent news seems to indicate it.

Possible scenario.  Frank lends Barkerville the $2.4 million.  He is the principal and only lender.  Barkerville delcares bankruptcy.  Frank snaps up the assets.   Barkerville disappears.  Another venture company starts up. Frank sells the assets for double to the new venture to start mining and exploring the assets.

The amazing thing is ; this is totally legal.
