Air Canada introduced its new fleet of Bombardier Q400 Next Generation aircraft with flights in Western Canada on Friday.
The new Q400 turboprops were used for flights from Calgary to Fort McMurray, Calgary to Regina, and Calgary to Saskatoon.
The airline said it is also increasing capacity on a number of routes in Western Canada in the spring and summer.
“This spring, Air Canada will strategically increase capacity by either scheduling larger aircraft or adding flights to meet strong demand in Western Canada,” said Marcel Forget, vice president of network planning with Air Canada.
Some of the routes with the most expansion are Edmonton to Regina, Edmonton to Saskatoon, Vancouver to Fort McMurray, and Calgary to Portland, Oregon, each with a 100 percent increase in capacity.
The Toronto to Fort McMurray route has also been expanded, from 292 seats in 2012 to 363 in 2013.
