What is the necessity for the Canadian government to state that Mongolia can pass whatever laws it likes and Canadian companies have to abide by them? In general, thats pretty obvious. Do they think that if they molify and reassure the Mongolian politicans that business will go more smoothly? Lower the temperature of the dialog and so forth? Well, I've been ranting fanatically for a while, and maybe the Canadian government is playing this right, but it seems like they don't need to sound like they are hanging their own companies out to dry quite so much. The tax revenue that Canada stands to receive (I believe, I'm no expert on international tax law) from TRQ and others is substantial. I don't think they need to pander to 'democratic values' at this moment, but as noted, maybe they know exactly what they're doing.
