I'd guess many shorts are underwater now and are hoping for a sizeable round of profit taking before the next "surprise" is dropped on us. As you point out, they'll certainly help that along if/whenever possible. I was fairly certain the goon squad was going to smack the stock down yesterday afternoon with an hour or so to go before the close. shares were trading to close to 50d MA and were vulnerable to a big downdraft imho. whether by design or not, the release of that nr was very well timed. now everyone is on alert for the next curveball.
Comments re banks and US equities in general is 100% true. The problem is that the crooks are in charge and the game of extend and pretend could go on for longer than we'd probably like. When it comes time to tank the markets, these very same ***holes will make sure they are positioned prior to pulling the pin. Then, on some Monday morning in the future, we'll all awake to the announcement that some financial institution is suddenly insolvent overnight for reasons no one was aware of.
