One other thing to keep in mind is that for the last some 40 years, there's always been rising rhetoric and tension after the presidential elections in South Korea. Usually, North Korea will launch a military strike after the elections in the south are over. This has not happened yet, but many in the south are expecting something. Usually it's something minor, more of a symbolic gesture than anything else. The joint US-SK military exercises underway presently is probably a preemptive move.
