Interesting Article Interesting article from April 29. 2013.
On one hand it mentions the many patents and billions being spent on Graphene research.
Then it speaks to Graphene's value in todays market place and mentions Lux Researches estimate of $10 million today and $180 million by 2018.
It might also be considered a plug for the company that the writer is the President and CEO of.

Some excerpts
“The Geopolitics of Graphene
A ProEdgeWire commentary earlier this year declared, and I quote:
“It would not be exaggerated to propose that control of graphene translates to control of future technology.
“Of course, graphene is completely related to graphite, especially high purity flake graphite; the very kind that has been drawing miners to launch exploration projects in areas known or suspected of concealing this kind of mineralization.”
The American Chemical Society describes graphene as a “wonder material.”
It was no surprise the European Union announced its billion euro, 10-year funding grant for the investigation of graphene for commercial application development.
Of the 7,500 or so global patents related to graphene, UK and European researchers and corporate developers registered less than 100 of those patents – a small number from the very geographic area where graphene’s properties were discovered.
China currently holds the majority of ownership of those intellectual properties, followed by the United States and Korea.
China’s efforts to create a dominant graphene position is led for the most part by the Chinese Academy of Science. It is moving now to strategically establish graphene industrial zones on a regional basis throughout China.
The United States is heavily engaged in graphene commercial and industrial development at various levels. It recognizes graphene’s strategic economic and military values and is funding R&D projects at both the university and corporate levels.
Among individual corporate and academic graphene developers, the top three global patent owners are:
IBM, Xerox Corp and Samsung.
Korea has assumed an aggressive development posture and its government has set aside an initial $350 million in graphene development funding. It sees graphene as an export-rich catalyst for future economic growth and industrial and manufacturing expansion.”
But then it says....
“The Graphene Market
So what is graphene’s value in today’s marketplace?
A global research document published last year by U.S. based Lux Research put graphene’s value today at approximately $10 million with anticipated growth to $180 million by 2018.”
