LONDON — Bombardier Transportation has received a US$137-million order to provide 57 additional rail cars for the London overground network.
The new Electrostar rail cars will increase passenger capacity by adding one car to existing four-car trains.
The new units, which can travel up to 120 kilometres per hour, will be supported under an existing maintenance contract.
They will be built at Bombardier’s (TSX:BBD.B) facility in Derby, England, with deliveries beginning in late 2014.
Bombardier employs more than 3,200 workers at eight sites and 31 customer locations across the Britain. It has delivered or has orders for more than 60 per cent of the U.K.’s existing rail fleet and currently maintains about 40 per cent of the country’s rolling stock.
