They don't just construct leach pads wherever they want. There are Environmental standards, and an EIA report is also submitted to get a mining permit and has to go through all levels of government. I can say as a fact that the pads are nowhere close to any natural streams and wildlife. In fact, there is no agricultural land or ranch in the proximity of the mine. second, the leach pads are loaded up with ore to such a height and the leach application rate is acute. The pads are properly engineered with several layers of liner material and is overlain on extremely low permeable fill material. There are storm ponds connected to the pads for overflow runoff as well. Leakage causing harm to a rancher's cattle seems quite hard to believe.
