Chinese ferro-tungsten market in disarray as smelters and traders rush for cash
BEIJING (Metal-Pages) 17-Jul-13. Chinese ferro-tungsten market prices are in disarray as some smelters and traders insist on high offer prices but have sold at low prices, rushing for cash flow to maintain operations.
Peak prices for 70% grade ferro-tungsten are RMB202,000/tonne, but some smelters and traders who lack cash flow are selling at RMB197,000-199,000/tonne.

“Ferro-tungsten prices are staying high on the back of high production costs caused by high tungsten concentrate prices. But some smelters and traders lack cash because of slow business over the past few months and they are eager to sell at low prices,” a trade source in Jiangxi province said.
Prices of 75% grade ferro-tungsten have stayed at RMB203,000-205,000/tonne, equal to last week’s prices.
Prices of 80% grade ferro-tungsten are at RMB205,000-207,000/tonne. But business remains thin.
Export prices are at $51-53/kg on thin business.
Exports of ferro-tungsten in the first five months this year were only 2.6 tonnes, 91.87% down compared to the same period last year. There were no ferro-tungsten exports in April and May this year.
