Infrastructure is no problem....

Infrastructure is no problem....

Infrastructure should cost a lot less than the negative pundits calculate.

Soalara is about 160 km from Molo on the existing road adjacent to where the proposed RR is to be built, that is a distance of about 100 miles. At 35MPH it would take about 3 hours one way to Soalara.

They can even leave the trailers in Soalara for pick-up after the following shipment from Molo. At Molo they can simply hitch newly loaded trailers for the next day trip to Soalara and pick up the empty trailers from the previous trip. Round trips would be in the order of 6 hours. Six 40 tonne trucks operating 360 days could move 86,400 tonne annually, which is over the 82,000 tonne contemplated for total annual shipments.

If initially we have to ship to Tulear which is an extra 40km, gives aa 200km trip which equals about 124 miles. At 42MPH it would take about the same time and they still would be able to use 6 trucks as outlined above.

To insure against breakdown an seventh truch can be kept on stand-by along with an extra trailer.

If you look closely the existing road can be seen adjacent to the proposed rail route. The article is also a good read.
