GOOD NEWSThe Government will extend the Paramo, but will allow mining activites as long as the mining titles are in good standing. When the mining titles expire ( in 15-20 years) , then will not be renovated by the government. Time enough to deplete de mines.
I guess that CBJ titles have been granted for such period, but not sure the time is still left. But I am sure we are OK on this issue.
Not only social issues but Free Trade Agreement and future legal actions have been considered in this point.
With this solution, all parties, including NGOs should be happy.
The Government cannot extend the Paramo without previous workshop information to locals, that may misunderstand the final position of the government. This workshop is good, as the government will receive a feed back from local people, and will be used to support the final decision against national or international levels. All stakeholders will be well informed about the governments final decision.
Of course some farming will be affected, and the government has to deal with farmers and provide alternative solutions. Also, the Government has to inform local people that will respect the mining rights and that mining labor is secure.
In my experience this is the kind of decisions that has to be well informed to the local people that may or may not be affected, in order not to be missinformed.
I am possitive since we are back on track, and hopefully we wil see some action in the next days with more news and the NI 43101
