RE:Barriers to entry into fuel cell production businessLet me answer this properly. Ballard has over 2000 patents. One Part of their revenue generation is to license their patents out for money. Most if not all automakers will pay Ballard for their patents. This is what they referred as IP licensing. When mass production of these cars come within 5 years time frame, Ballard will get a piece of the pie($$$$$). Also, if PLUG wants to develop their own fuel cell, they will pay BAllard for the patents use. That is why it is so important that hydrogen fuel cell start commercializing and Ballard will get pay more.
