RE:The Chilcat River
RE:The Chilcat River A very good question..also the first one I asked Garfield before I and friends invested.Garfield said that all ore deposits at Palmer are not sulfieds..some are carbornate (barite) and could be mixed with the sulfides to neutralize the acids. There are limestone deposits that can do the same thing..just like lime on your lawn. You can also do what UCU..on Prince of Wales Island..is going to do..stuff the tailings back in the mountain!
Now..with that said..you have Southeast Alaska Conservation Council to deal with. This is a well funded and organized group of 17 conservation outfits. They have already tried to stop funding for HTR and UCU. They sued every gov. agency that permitted Kensenton..went all the way to US Surpreme Court! If you look at LCC's home page..issues..mining..you will see that they are already going after CEM. LCC is making allegations that Greens Creek is leaking heavy metals into salmon streams.Think regulators is going to let that happen? LCC has been conducting public education meetings about the dangers of mining to the enviroment..like Palmer is going to kill the eagles (we have 3000 of them during the fall salmon run) by eating contaminated salmon..gee..thought salmon stopped eating when they hit fresh water.
CEM is doing the right thing in Haines..supporting the local radio station (KHNS), supporting the state fair, inviting school kids to the camp, inviting town fathers to visit the site, and advertizing in the local newspaper. What Kensington did was cool. The Chanber of Commerce (Haines) invited Kensington reps and AK regulators to the monthly lunchon so business leaders could ask questions to both sides at the same time. I hope CEM will offer a job training program and interact with the local tribes..like WG is doing with First Nations. Sorry to be longwinded..but thought the board should know the local story. CP
