Omurbek Tekebayev: Kumtor’s administration shouldn’t blackmail whole state

30/04/14 14:02, Bishkek – 24.kg news agency, by Anastasia BENGARD

Kumtor's administration shouldn't blackmail the whole state, the deputy Omurbek Tekebayev said today at the session of the parliament.

The deputy presented the amendments to the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic on bringing to justice persons for acts that can lead to shutdown of enterprise. Previously, he has repeatedly stated that "today we are intimidated with stop of mine pit and dismantling of equipment." "In order to predetermine the course of events, we want to provide for the responsibility of those who can sabotage the mine. This offense will apply to the category of serious, and it is punishable by 10 to 15 years imprisonment," he explained.

He noted that some individuals have opposed the bill, saying that the document limits the right to strike. "But the question on the protection of workers began to rise as soon as it came to Kumtor. We don't deny that the bill deals specifically with mine," the deputy said.

His colleague Roza Aknazarova asked why warning is not provided by the draft law. The draft law is sent to the vote on first reading.
