RE:could the C-Series become a modern day MD-80 or DC-I see this as  a similar story to the Air Canada West jet story.
Westjet didn't at first take AC straight on but build the airline by servicing smaller markets and putting jet service back into these markets.

The C series will do the same for BBD. they will be able to supply aircraft to smaller airlines to improve their product to their passengers and in time the mainline carriers will feel the effects and come on board.

The biggest thing BBD needs right now is the Porter deal to happen. To showcase the aircraft operating from a downtown airport in Canada to all parts of North America.
The shortfield and high and hot performance will have this plane giving jet service to many more airports worldwide.
I think Westjet will buy the C series before Air Canada just as it took Air Canada's Jazz to see Porter's sucess with the Q400 before buying it.

Just as the CRJ led the way in offering jet service to small markets the C Series will be a game changer and their idea of not having all their production tied up by one or two companies will get more aircraft out into the 4 corners of the world.

The Q400 just hit 500 units and now is gaining increased sales.

The biggest issue after the production starts will be to suply enough planes.

Just my take on things.
