I guess you missed the point, it is not to wait 10 years and sell.
You may sell if you like another company better, you may sell because something has changed such as oil going down, you may sell because you need money but don't sell good companies when they are down.
That is a receipt to lose money.
Those who held on during the 2008-09 era are very well off today, however many sold at the bottom and never got back in.
Also over a longer term dividend paying stocks out perform the broader markets and pay while you wait.
