I do think there is upside from here but I, unlike you, have doubts about Musk's vision and Tesla.
If you look at the overall Musk's vision and financials it is not the type of enterprise that a Buffett would own and for good reason. Expanding rapidly, requires a tremendous amount of capital to keep expanding and at least for the foreseeable future has little or no prospect of  actually beging to making a profit.
I am a holder of NMX at this point as it is probably a few months away from reaching my target price however I very much doubt I will own it beyond 2016.
