Now that there is a relative dearth of high-quality, super-cheap (~ $10/oz) targets to pursue, he could just sit on his assets and wait for the PoG to go ballistic, or he can do what he has always done: find ways to increase value to shareholders, unless and until the market changes and attractive properties reemerge.
Taking the best of the best and expanding their resource base by some highly-targeted drilling - the kind that previous owners would have liked to do before they ran out of money and options - is arguably the best way to do this.
If that's what it takes to get prospective majors interested in lucrative JVs or buyouts, I'm all for it.
