China’s cobalt price jumps amid increasingly bullish sentiment in international market

Chinese cobalt metal prices continue to rally this week, boosted by the leap in international prices of low-grade cobalt assessed by Metal Bulletin on Wednesday January 11, and increasingly bullish sentiment among market players.

Domestic Chinese cobalt metal prices jumped to 298,000-305,000 yuan ($43,007-44,017) per tonne on Friday January 13, up 4.7% from Wednesday.  The increase in free market low-grade cobalt prices, especially in the new year, have led to a higher costs to import cobalt metal.  Metal Bulletin’s low-grade cobalt assessment rose to $15-15.65 per lb on Wednesday from $14.70-15 per lb previously on bullish sentiment and tightening availability.  "The international cobalt price rose more rapidly in the past two weeks"
