River has a good chunk of ice on top.
Full moon looks huge..Moon is actually a bit closer ot the earth then normal.
Creates a reasonable tide on the river itself.
Water can't just float up..so comes around the edges or wherever it can get through and sprinkles a nice helping of water on that safe chunk of ice.
Water turns into slush quickly and forms a small layer of surface ice.
Guy with dog sled crosses river on this thin layer of ice. Sled crashes through the ice and the lot if submerged into a slushy cold mix while.
I think in this case hyperthermia is probably the enemy..not drowning.
Either way, the guy had a emergency beacon and 3 or 4 teams came and helped out quickly.
