I would argue that one highest use would be to buy back shares issued at higher levels when they are on "sale". I'd probably argue for no more than a $ million, maybe half that. I'm not arguing for bidding prices up, as much as putting a floor under the bid. I realize the public float is just a fraction, but there around 300 million shares out.
Having a few shares in Treasury could be a great way to cover options, warrants, or investment by a new strategic investor. We are in the range where Tocqueville, I think invested. By announcing that you intend to support the bid, supply should dry up, perhaps with very little if any actual cash outlay to talk the price up.
