You are truly and ultracrepidarian.

Options pools in an of themselves are neither good nor bad. How they are awarded and what KPIs are utilized is important. Further, they ensure that management, employees and directors are aligned with shareholders as they benefit when the share price appreciates. The fact that some errant macro-event may help or hurt the stock price is immaterial. These companies do well when the underlying company does well - there may be a lag as to when the share price appreciates given company performance- but they are at least in orbit of each other.

Just FYI - most institutional investors want management to have more options and shares to ensure that they are aligned and compensated with corporate performance.
