The first patent extracts Scandium oxide from ores which is currently the product that is marketed. The second patent presents the problems with use of Scandium oxide directly to make a master aluminum alloy. The patent presents the use of a Scandium precursor Scandium hydroxilate for addition to the molten aluminum to produce the master alloy.
The second patent notes that the precursor can be produced directly from the extraction process ie patent 1
SCY seems to play "pretty close to their chest", not disclosing their detailed plans. I have said that offtake agreements for scandium oxide do not be critical to the company plans. This may be because they plan on producing scandium hydroxilate precursor to feed the Australian aluminum recycler to produce the master alloy. They wouldn't need offtakes if that is the plan.
We will see.
