After reaching an agreement with the National Government and the multinational Gran Colombia Gold, the Mining Bureau of Segovia and Remedios decided to lift the strike that began last July 21 and today turned 43 days.

The Ministry of Mines and Energy said that in the "negotiations were agreed measures to formalize the sector, improve the conditions of small traditional miners and prevent the illegal exploitation of minerals."

Remember: Mineros de Segovia and Remedios reached an agreement with the Government

The parties had reached an agreement since Wednesday night, following a meeting in Medelln, but the Mining Bureau asked for time to travel to Segovia and Remedios and discuss points agreed with the community.

Thus, after two days of socialization, the miners accepted the conditions set forth in the pact and signed the agreement. With that act, the strike is officially lifted and the municipalities of the Northeast begin the return to normalcy.

The signed document contemplates 15 agreements and five minimum points of contractual will between the miners and Gran Colombia Gold, among which stands out the creation of an Office of Mining Solutions, which will be a space with permanent institutional presence for the formalization of the miners and the "Reconversion of those who decide not to continue in the activity," explained the Ministry of Mines.

Deputy Minister of Mines Carlos Andrs Cante celebrated that an agreement could be reached without negotiating legality: "we will continue to accompany compliance with the agreements to guarantee the miners that we continue to support their ancestry but understand that this activity can not continue to develop in the midst of informality. "

Cante acknowledged that the miners of Segovia and Remedios intend to work on the process of formalization. "We are convinced that there may be coexistence between small, medium and large mining," said the deputy minister.

Yarley Marn, treasurer of the Mining Bureau, confirmed the desire of the Northeast miners to work in legality.

"Now comes a big job, because the miners have to enter a stage of formalization and we have to adapt to the changes that that implies. So the most important thing is that there are changes for everyone: we have to work together to comply with all the current regulations, because we even comply with some standards, but we did not have the ownership. Now we are going to have a more stable economy for the region, "he argued.
