RE:Hope the company can keep goingDont be silly. The Rupert story and this smelter are apples and oranges. For example pulp prices never recovered, while zinc is doing fine. If the union had accepted the company demands in Rupert the mill still would have closed. What, you want them to earn what Chinese workers get? Thats the logical conclusion of your line of thought. All you people criticizing the union! Workers have the right to strike, and in the Noranda case were forced out by company demands for cuts. The pulp mill site in Rupert has been remediated and new business is moving in. This "final and global" language is symptomatic of arrogant and disdainful management, since it precludes negotiation. I hope a mediator can be brought in.
