how many reg. users you think wired has400
Michael Smyth, the new president and CEO of WiredMerchant.com Inc., has already signed his first major partner: UPS Canada Ltd.
Together they have built a web-based fulfillment solution for VARs, which make up most of WiredMerchant.com’s customers.
The solution will enable WiredMerchant.com users to have access to a preferred shipper and a preferred price.
“People have busy days and we worked with UPS on a matrix that is very complex to determine the right kind of tracking, weight, cost, duty, brokerage fees, status and currency exchange,” Smyth said.
UPS was looking to get into the dot-com world and WiredMerchant.com helped them do that, according to Smyth.
With the alliance, WiredMerchant.com has revamped its Web site to incorporate new features such as flexible payment and detailed shipping options. Customers can now securely pay on-line using Visa or MasterCard or through an approved line of credit. They can also pay through wire transfers or by certified cheque. Shipping charges can either go directly to the customer or to the end-user.
“We had to improve our web site, with a new look and feel that incorporates UPS as our preferred shipper. When you enter the site you will know what your costs are if you use UPS. You can still use FedEx or Purolator, but those costs you have to figure out yourself,” he said.
The new WiredMerchant.com site also maintains customer tax, shipping, and billing/payment information and can provide access to a live product specialist for assistance.
“We just wanted to make it as easy as possible for our registered users,” Smyth said. Currently, WiredMerchant.com has over 400 registered users.
The Web site also allows VARs to search or purchase products by SKU number or manufacturer.
“WiredMerchant.com brings in new computers that are 6 to 19 months old that are just off-lease,” he said.
“All are at different price points, and we have to offer fresh product everyday. With fresh product everyday, shipping is a concern; that is why we are working with UPS,” he said.
