Apple to launch largest iPhone ever this fall: Bloomberg
Apple Inc. plans to launch three new smartphones later this year following lower than expected demand for its iPhone X, Bloomberg reports.
The new lineup, expected to be unveiled in autumn, includes the largest iPhone ever, an upgraded handset the same size as the current iPhone X and a less expensive model with some of the key features of the flagship phone, according to the financial news provider.
Apple is already running production tests with the suppliers, the report said.
The new iPhone will have a case that is about the same size as iPhone 8 Plus, but in view of its edge-to-edge design, the screen will be close to 6.5 inches, making it one of the biggest smartphones on the market, Bloomberg said, citing people familiar with the products.
Despite the bigger size, the screen will have a resolution of 1242 x 2688, making it as sharp as the one on the 5.8-inch iPhone X. It will also use OLED technology, just like the screen on an iPhone X.
It will also have a Face ID scanner that unlocks the device and enables payments.
Apple is also preparing an update to the regular-sized iPhone X, the sources said.
Both phones are likely to use next-generation A12 processors and will continue to include stainless steel edges.
In some regions, Apple may offer a dual-SIM card option for the larger model, which is likely to be popular among business people who visit multiple countries.
The phones will have an updated operating system, which will include upgraded augmented reality capabilities, deeper integration of the Siri digital assistant, digital health monitoring and the ability to use Animojis in FaceTime, the report said.
The cheaper version of the iPhone X will also feature an edge-to-edge screen and a Face ID scanner.
But to keep costs down, the cheaper phone will use LCD screen technology like in the iPhone 8 and will have a glass back instead of the stainless steel used in the iPhone X, Bloomberg said.
