Shopify adds Google Pay to checkout process

2018-03-19 10:02 ET - News Release

Mr. Mohammad Hashemi reports

SHOPIFY ENABLES FRICTIONLESS CHECKOUT WITH GOOGLE PAY

Shopify Inc. has launched its integration with Google Pay on Shopify stores, allowing hundreds of millions of shoppers to experience an accelerated checkout. With Google Pay, shoppers will experience a fast checkout involving fewer steps and a mobile-first design. Shopify is the first commerce platform enabling Google Pay for its users.

Today, over 70 per cent of the traffic to on-line stores that use Shopify comes from mobile devices, a number that continues to rise. This is why improving the checkout process on mobile is critical for supporting on-line retailers in their journey to grow and reach more customers. To improve checkout conversion rates, Shopify merchants can now enable Google Pay with a single click in their store settings and unlock an accelerated checkout experience for their customers. With fewer clicks and a mobile-first design, Google Pay enables any Android user who has previously stored their credit or debit card information on Chrome to checkout with a Google Pay button.

"The checkout process can often make or break the completion of a purchase. When shoppers encounter a lot of friction on a mobile device, they're more likely to abandon their carts," said Mohammad Hashemi, general manager of financial services at Shopify. "Shopify is always looking for ways to arm our merchants with tools to provide the best customer experiences, and, by enabling Google Pay across our entire platform, we are helping our merchants tackle one of the toughest challenges in the industry -- cart abandonment. With Google Pay, customers globally will experience a frictionless checkout process on Shopify stores, generating more sales for our merchants."

"Google Pay is designed to provide the kind of seamless shopping experience consumers expect, no matter where they are and on whichever device they choose to shop," said Pali Bhat, vice-president of payments product management. "By integrating with Google Pay, Shopify is making it even easier for merchants to deliver fast and simple checkout."

Shopify is always looking for ways to set its merchants up for success -- one of which is enabling a frictionless checkout experience for their customers. Working with industry-leading technology companies like Google, Shopify will continue to innovate in the payments space in order to help generate higher conversion rates, resulting in more sales for the company's merchants.

Google Pay is available to all Shopify merchants using Shopify Payments. To learn more about Google Pay, please visit the Shopify website.
