Monday Morning ... Let's see what happens .........

Monday Morning ... Let's see what happens .........
It was a turbulent week for investors within the cannabis industry in North America, one that serves as a reminder of the impact political decisions can have on the cannabis industry.

Fortunately though, things went the right way!

In Canada, a major Canadian news source ran a story on Thursday suggesting that the nation's plans to move forward with legalization were in jeopardy.

It has been a foregone conclusion that Canada will legalize, with only a question of the exact date. The stocks of the Canadian LPs, not surprisingly, were under pressure as the Canadian Senate debated the legislation in what is called a Second Reading. This could have been a black swan event, but the vote went the right way.

Less positive for the industry was the revelation of the initial rules for packaging, which without any revisions, will look to be quite unfriendly to the industry.

In the United States, cannabis operators and investors have been dealing with the uncertainty of whether or not the protections afforded to the medical cannabis industry by spending bill amendments would live on.

While it's positive that in the end that the Rohrabacher-Blumenauer Amendment in the Congress and the Leahy Amendment in the Senate were included (against the wishes of Attorney General Sessions, who had lobbied Congress to exclude them), we must face this battle again in as little as a few months, as the budget runs only through September.

If history serves as a precedent, the current spending bill will extend well beyond September.

The political uncertainty extends beyond the federal level. This week, a judge ruled the Arkansas license awards to be "unconstitutional", sending the state perhaps back to the drawing board, and Ohio is working with legal and corruption allegations that needs to be sorted out.

Even in Canada, issues are arising at the provincial level.

Here is some of the most interesting business content from this week:
