I think there are 2 markets to this type of loyalty program. 

Frequent Shopper : AP clearly has the upper hand. They have the agreements, members, and experience to definitivly win this one. 

Frequent flyers: It's too early to day. My opinion is that ppl don't care about WHO they fly as much as how much it COST to fly. If AP can stay competitive in their paid tickets then i would say they have the upper hand as well. But if they can't compete on price with AC then AC might win this market which is samller piece of the pie anyways.
