Saskatchewan Diamond Exploration NEWS RELEASE
Saskatchewan DIamond exploration
August 10, 2018
Gem Oil Inc. is pleased to announce the discovery of a
potential new kimberlite, based on laboratory analysis of positive kimberlite indicator minerals, the new discovery is located 44 km south of North Arrow’s PK150 kimberlite and 111 km west of Flin Flon.
Laboratory analysis of positive kimberlite indicator minerals has returned G10 pyrope garnets with a Cr203 range of 7.45% to 7.98%. Pyrope is common in peridotite xenoliths from kimberlite pipes, some of which are diamond-bearing. Pyrope found in association with diamond commonly has a Cr2O3 content of 3-8%
The newly identified prospect is coincident with SMDI showing 0242, the Clark Point Nickeliferous Peridotite.
W.A. Padgham in Geological Report 114: The Geology of the Deschambault Lake District (1968) for the Saskatchewan Department of Mineral Resources identified serpentinized peridotite west of Clark Point, as follows:
“Serpentinized peridotite is known from only one locality in the district, namely the west side of Deschambault Channel directly west of Clark Point, where it forms an elongate ellipsoidal mass one mile long and one-half mile wide.” Historical review of SMDI showing 0242: 1969, Bruce Dunlop Ltd. for La Ronge Mining Ltd. conducted a ground electromagnetic and magnetic survey and dug two trenches.
1970, La Ronge Mining Syndicate drilled one hole to a depth of 106.7 metres, below ore grade nickel values encountered over full length of hole.
1986, Taiga Consultants Ltd. for Prolific Petroleum Ltd., (R. K. Netolitzky) geological mapping, prospecting and rock sampling.
1987, Taiga Consultants Ltd. for Prolific Petroleum Ltd., (R. K. Netolitzky) mapping, prospecting and rock sampling.
1993, Pine Channel Gold Corp., airborne magnetic survey, reported to have covered the showing.
2013, Ryan Kalt staked claim MC00000212 that covered SMDI showing 0242 now lapsed, it is not known if any work was completed or reported.
Laboratory analysis was limited to a small fist-sized piece of serpentinized peridotite material collected on June 27, 2018. Additional material has been collected for caustic dissolution and petrographic analysis.
Gem Oil Inc. is actively exploring for diamond in Western Canada since 1989. We were instrumental in the acquisition and discovery of the Star Kimberlite, the largest diamondiferous kimberlite in the world under option to RIO Tinto Exploration Canada Ltd. GEM owns diamond exploration interests in Saskatchewan and the Northwest Territories.
