It's because it is the base of valuation for a companies stock. Remember that the stock market is just that: a market. For every transaction, there is a willing buyer and seller. Each might think they're getting the better end of the deal People who go to the market with strong emotional attachment are much like those who head out for a grocery shopping trip on an empty stomach. They are more likely to make expensive, and irrational decisions based on their state of mind. Sure, occasionally it's okay to vent your frustration; constant negativity will infect your mind with pessimism though. That's all I want to say.
