The role of the Federal government's imposition of laws and regulation on state sovereignty has long been a hot topic since- as far back as any of us can remember. The confliction lies in the grey zone of when a state law directly contradicts federal law. Long gone are the days where any horse totin' outlaw could have warrants in 6 states and hang up his hat on some ranch in Nevada.
It brings us to the current debate in America today: Cannabis. The recent legalization of Cannabis in states such as California, Oregon, and Colorado are setting a new trend and a new attitude towards the plant- but Cannabis is still illegal on a Federal level.
"We have with full authrotiy- to police and therefore seize any enterprise operating against any Federal Regulation, whether it be within just paramaters of state law or not."
A Statement made by acting acting Drug Enforcement Administration Uttam Dhillon after a recent speech to justify the recent DEA invasion and seizure of California's Canadian owned Green Sage Industries.
Statements made by President Trump just days before which directly labelled Canadian owned Green Sage Industries as "thugs" and "criminals" left no clear intention of action but the President noted that Green Sage must "be stopped."
Just weeks prior to the legalization of Cannabis in Canada it was publicly announced that Canadians associated with the Cannabis industry, those in possession of Cannabis or admit to using the drug would be denied entry to the United States.
So what is to make of the Green Sage seizure? It seems The Trump Administration is staying true to their word that Canada, and Cannabis, will not be welcomed or be given a chance in the United States.
No Further comments have been made by Dhillon as to the allocation of Green Sage's assets or whether or not the company can continue to operate within legal Federal paramaters.
