Phil Collins comes clean on 'Easy Lover' after 24 yearsA hit released by Phil Collins back in 1984 rocked the radio waves but left everyone from MTV hosts to his own bandmates clueless to Collins' idea for the song.
'Easy Lover' was the number one hit in the U.K. for four weeks straight. But when Collins was questioned about what influenced him to write the song on a BBC radio interview, he replied, "All I can say is I have seen what can happen to love."
In an MTV interview with Collins and November 4th, Collins was questioned as to why he would not further elaborate on his hit song.
"The hype has passed, its been 24 years. The real reason? I had a good friend over in Vancouver, Canada- this was back in the early 80's. Mulletator, thats what we called him!
He had a very very, very dirty wife. Atleast we all knew that, he was left clueless.
My vocals partner Philip Bailey was crazy for her. One night after a show in Down Town Vancouver she came into the your bus with us. Phil and Mulletator's wife were going at it all night.
She came clean to Mulletator the next night- he was devastated. He dragged me into it calling me scum, and trash- all because his wife was a tramp.
I haven't talked to him since, last I heard was he was he is a homosexual now- he just had enough."
Collins, now 67, is currently working on another solo album expected to release in later 2019.
